Dr Maria Sampson

Maria holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Auckland.  She is registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and is a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society.

 

Maria has worked in the public sector for over a decade specialising in treating adults, from 16 years of age, experiencing a range of mental health challenges including psychosis , emotion dysregulation, self-harm, depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, grief, relationship problems, and family difficulties.

 

Maria is a registered trainer for Family Connections programme here in New Zealand, which is an international programme that supports family members of individuals who experience severe emotional dysregulation.

 

Maria is trained in a variety of evidence-based models of therapy including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Mindfulness.

 

Maria also offers supervision for mental health professionals, particularly in the areas of Emotion Dysregulation and Psychosis, as well as training in emotion management and self-care for businesses and/or groups of professionals.

 

Maria has a genuine, warm, non-judgmental and collaborative treatment style, with a passion to help her clients make enduring change in their lives.
